Compost Crew Now Serving Reston Residents

by Sarah Cedro, Residential Composting Analyst

Compost Crew is a small company, but our mission is big. Our goal is to eliminate food waste from landfills, so there’s no time to rest. We are continuously expanding, making it easier for people throughout the DMV to compost their organic waste.

We’re excited to announce that Compost Crew has begun serving homes in Reston, VA!  We have provided food scrap pick-up to Reston area businesses since 2019, and now local residents can take advantage of our services, too.  We now provide weekly curbside compost pickup in the area roughly between Herndon Elementary School, Woodland Park Road, Reston Park and Parkridge Boulevard.  (This includes the southeast corner of Herndon, too.)  All you have to do is separate out your food scraps, and we do the rest!  It’s that simple.

Not only have we expanded our map, but we have a Community Program in the works in South Reston. Our Community Programs offer discounted rates for groups of people in the same neighborhood who sign up together.  All we need are a handful of additional homes in the South Reston area to come on board and we will be happy to get everyone composting (and with discounted rates!)

Our sign-up form walks you through the process of setting up your account.  You can choose either a 5-gallon or 12-gallon bin, and either a monthly or annual plan.  When you enter your address, you can see right away if you’re in our new service area.  If not, we’ll notify you when we expand into your neighborhood.

We’re looking forward to helping more Reston families keep their food waste out of the trash.  Please help us spread the word!

Hi! I was wondering if you will be providing any service to apartment complexes? I live in Winterthur down in Hunters Woods and currently do my own compost in a tumbler on my patio but I would love to support a community service doing it if possible. We unfortunately don’t have a lot of use for the soil without a yard but I didn’t want to waste my scraps. This would definitely be a better option for us.
